Temporary, part-time jobs remain available at numerous local census offices in this state. Several local census offices throughout Washington continue to hire census takers, searching for individuals to conduct brief interviews with households that have not returned their forms by mid-April.

2010 census questionnaires arrive in the mail, beginning March 15. The U.S. Census Bureau has asked that each household fill out the form and mail it back in the postage-paid envelope as soon as it arrives, ensuring that the nationwide headcount is accurate.

Anticipating that a percentage of households will not participate in the 2010 census on their own, local census offices have hired census takers to personally reach those uncounted households in May. The offices continue to recruit, especially in certain rural areas and places with a higher concentration of non-English speakers. Bilingual people are encouraged to apply, but all census takers must speak English.

Hourly pay ranges from about $11.75 to $17.50, depending on the area. The local census offices specifically are looking for individuals in east King, Pierce, Thurston, Clark, Cowlitz, Lewis, Pacific, Skamania, Wahkiakum, Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan, Island and Snohomish counties.
