Locals receive college scholarships

Alexander D. King received a $2,000 scholarship through the Boeing Scholars Program for his academic performance at Washington State University and his career aspirations.

Alexander D. King received a $2,000 scholarship through the Boeing Scholars Program for his academic performance at Washington State University and his career aspirations.

King graduated from Juanita High in 2006 and plans to graduate from WSU in 2010 with a degree in finance/economics. He is a member of the WSU finance club and participates in the Boeing Mentorship Program. King is the son of Carl King of Bothell.

• Western Washington University student Annie Brandon, daughter of Judy Brandon of Bothell, received a $1,000 President’s Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Brandon, an incoming freshman, earned a 3.94 grade-point average at Juanita High, and is interested in majoring in Spanish.

While attending Juanita, Brandon was awarded scholar athlete in fall 2007, was named science-department student of the quarter and Rotary student of the month in October 2008.

She participated in volleyball, National Honor Society and volunteered as an outdoor education counselor at a local elementary school. She hopes to one day travel the world helping underprivileged children.
