Metal object 6.5 pounds crashes through roof of Bothell home | Update

A 6.5-pound object that fell from the sky crashed through the roof of a home in Bothell this morning, according to the Bothell Police Department.

Update: According to the Bothell PD, the metal item appears to have been a large debris grinder from a construction jobs site approximately 1,500 feet from the victim’s residence.

A 6.5-pound object that fell from the sky crashed through the roof of a home in Bothell this morning, according to the Bothell Police Department.

“It was at about 11 a.m. this morning and it was a private residence,” said Bothell Police Sgt. Ken Seuberlich. “No one was injured but the damage to the home is pretty good.”

The object, which is about 5.5-inches long and 2.5-inches wide, is one piece of ragged metal with two holes in it.

Had someone been hit with the object, which landed in the master bedroom, Seuberlich said that it would have “definitely” killed them.

The object left a large hole in the roof of the home in the 1900 block of 232nd Street. The home is approximately three blocks from I-405.

“The homeowner brought it in to us this morning,” Seuberlich said. “I have been doing this for 25 years and I have never seen anything like this.”

The police have contacted the Federal Aviation Administration about the matter. FAA representatives plan to pick up the object and investigate further. Seuberlich said that there is no chance of any legal action being taken.

Police have not released the specific address of the home or the identity of the homeowner.
