King County Metro Transit will operate a reduced weekday schedule Monday, Jan. 21, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and will reroute buses around the holiday events in downtown Seattle, the Central District and Capitol Hill.

Buses will be rerouted from about 12-3 p.m., where street closures and traffic congestion are expected on Second Avenue in downtown Seattle, the Central District, and 15th Avenue East and East Pine Street on Capitol Hill as a result of the Martin Luther King Jr. events.

During this event, Metro and Sound Transit bus service will be rerouted off of parts of Second Avenue, 23rd Avenue East, 15th Avenue East, East Union Street, East Madison Street, East Seneca Street, and East Pine Street, and will travel instead via alternate nearby streets, depending on the route, destination and direction of travel.

Specific reroute details are on the Metro Online Construction & Events page. Visit Metro’s online Trip Planner to find out how to get to and from events and locations. Trip Planner itineraries do not include information about planned service disruptions, so be sure to check if your route will be affected.

On days with reduced weekday schedules, some commuter and school-oriented routes do not operate, and other routes have individual trips canceled. Also, Metro makes some adjustments to routes that serve the University of Washington (UW). When the UW is not in session, there will be some bus trip reductions.
