More than 350 emergency managers, social service agency representatives, and transportation and communication experts from King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties will gather today for a full-day planning conference aimed at improving disaster planning and response with vulnerable populations across the tri-county region of the Pacific Northwest.

Vulnerable populations are residents who may face health, language, economic, cultural or other barriers to resources and information and who are at greater risk of being disproportionately impacted by a disaster.

Local and national speakers will give presentations and lead planning and coordination discussions covering a range of issues within three tracks: Social and Human Service agency preparedness, transportation and notification and warning.

Scheduled participants include: emergency managers, community organizations, human services agencies, transportation agencies, regional businesses, tribes, faith-based organizations and others interested in emergency planning and response for vulnerable populations.
