The Northshore Schools Foundation has announced that Emilia “Mia” Silverberg, Inglemoor High School senior, is its second scholarship recipient. Silverberg will be the featured keynote speaker at the upcoming All In for Kids Luncheon on April 6 at the Lynnwood Convention Center.
Silverberg was one of nine applicants for the Foundation’s second annual scholarship opportunity.
“We received applications representing all four of our high schools and all of the applicants were strong,” said Teri Foose, Northshore Schools Foundation Board member and Luncheon Chair person. “It was a tough decision; I wish we had the funds to award to each of them.”
“Mia stood out as an outstanding young lady who shows curiosity, commitment, resiliency, and many additional qualities that lend themselves to being ready for success in her adult life. Her passion for science is what inspires her as a student and a community member, someone who has already started her own non-profit agency. We are excited to see what kind of life-changing research she will do as she plans to become an international field research biologist.”
Silverberg is an International Baccalaureate student at Inglemoor High School where she has been awarded the National Honor Society Membership Award, a Humanitarian Award and the Presidential Fitness award. She is the Founder and President of “Save our Shorelines,” and “Fleece for Peace” and the IHS Fun Club. She serves as the executive of Gender Inequality at the Washington Youth Summit for Equality and as an arena volunteer at Little Bit Riding Center.
“I am fascinated by the concept of life, and want to understand how all beings – plant, animal, or otherwise – allow for one another’s existence. I think it is important for humanity to understand how one small break in our interconnected web of life has the potential to cause total environmental collapse. This is what I want to prevent,” said Silverberg in her application to the Foundation. “I am extremely excited to represent the Northshore Schools Foundation as their scholarship recipient and Luncheon keynote speaker, and incredibly thankful for the contributions that our community has made to make this possible.”
Silverberg has benefited from the Foundation’s investment in programs for students at Sunrise Elementary, Timbercrest Junior High and Inglemoor High school including support for Science, Biology and Career & College readiness.
“Northshore Schools Foundation grants have helped me to become the happy and healthy person that I am today,” Silverberg said.
Silverberg joins an impressive line-up of presenters at the annual All In For Kids Luncheon, including: KIRO 7 Anchorwoman Michelle Millman, School District Superintendent Larry Francois and several other student speakers who will speak to the value of the commitment made by the Foundation and District to helping students graduate future-ready.
This year’s luncheon festivities will feature a Student Expo with an emphasis on Computer Science, Advanced Biology programs, Event Management, Hospitality and Tourism, Job training and more. The Canyon Park Orchestra & Jazz Band will also perform. The
Student Expo is open from 11 a.m. ubntil noon at the Lynnwood Convention Center. The Luncheon program and Silverberg’s Keynote will follow.
