Properties along portions of the Lake Washington shoreline in Kirkland and Kenmore recently received notice from the city of Kirkland and Northshore Utility District (NUD) about the joint project to clean sewer pipes that serve homes and businesses.

Beginning today, city of Kirkland and NUD crews will begin to access manholes located in Lake Washington. Because access to the wastewater lake line is limited, a barge carrying equipment, including the city’s green educator truck, will be placed along the lake near affected properties. Kirkland properties south of Juanita Bay Park adjacent to 10th Street West and 14th Avenue West and south of Carillon Point adjacent to Lake Washington Boulevard from the 5200 block to approximately the 4400 block of Lake Washington Boulevard will be affected by the project.

Once Kirkland’s sewer lines are clean, the barge will continue to shoreline properties in Kenmore that are serviced by the NUD. The project is expected to be complete by July 26.

The sewer lake line was installed in 1961 and was recently inspected via robotic video cameras. Cleaning the sewer pipes will minimize the possibility of sewage backups and overflows and improve water quality.
