The YMCA of Greater Seattle has reached its goal of $4.6 million for its Partners With Youth (PWY) annual campaign.

In Bothell, the Northshore YMCA raised $323,000 in its branch-specific Partners With Youth Campaign. This will enable the Northshore YMCA to provide more than 1,100 scholarships for youth programs and to serve more than 21,000 youth, teens and families.

Overall, the Partners With Youth Campaign enables more than 94,000 children and teens to experience the YMCA’s character-building and life-enhancing programs and services. Ninety-five cents of every dollar raised through the PWY campaign goes directly to financial assistance or programs, including summer camp, that offer learning opportunities in safe, caring environments with positive adult role models.

This year, a record 1,700 volunteers and 12,000 contributors helped the YMCA raise the $4.6 million by soliciting individual and corporate donations of all sizes. The goal was ambitious — 5 percent higher than last year — but necessary given increased requests for financial aid. In Bothell, 141 volunteers and 1,195 contributors took part in this year’s campaign.

Northshore YMCA Partners With Youth campaign chair Susan Andrews says that the community’s generosity is an acknowledgement of an ongoing concern for youth — and awareness of the YMCA’s important role in supplementing the tireless work of schools and parents in helping kids learn and thrive.

“Our enthusiastic volunteers and committed donors understand the importance of youth in our region,” said Andrews. “The YMCA’s work makes a better community for all, and it starts with helping and inspiring young people to be healthy, successful and engaged in their communities.”
