NSD online applications for 7th grade double acceleration in math

The process for identifying Northshore School District students for double acceleration in math has changed for the 2016-2017 school year.

The process for identifying Northshore School District students for double acceleration in math has changed for the 2016-2017 school year. There is no longer a requirement to reach a specific score on the 6th grade ITBS assessment in order to be considered for Algebra 1 placement in 7th grade.

EAP sixth-graders who complete Holt Course 3 by the end of the 2015-2016 school year do not test for Algebra placement in the 7th grade. These students will be automatically placed in Algebra 1 through the 7th grade course registration process.

All other sixth-graders interested in being considered for Algebra 1 as a seventh-grader will need to submit an online application during the open application period scheduled for March 2016.

All students who apply for double acceleration will be tested on April 2, at Northshore Junior High School, using both the 8th grade ITBS math and the Orleans Hanna Algebra Readiness assessments. Each assessment will be administered during a half-day testing session.

Sixth-graders who reach the district standard of 80th percentile on the ITBS 8th grade math and 85th percentile on the Orleans Hanna Algebra Readiness assessments, will be enrolled in Algebra 1 in the 7th grade.

Parents will receive a letter with their child’s test results in early May from the Secondary Instructional Support Department.
