On February 9th, the Northshore Schools Foundation Co-President Becky Birch and Executive Director Carmin Dalziel presented the Northshore School District School Board and Superintendent Larry Francois with grant funding for $64,733 to support student programs and teacher impacting nearly 18,000 students this year.

“As a board member of the Foundation I am extremely proud of how our community pulls together to support the career and college readiness programs for our students. Creating direct impact on how well our students are prepared for their next chapter inspires me to do more. Northshore community does not disappoint!” said Anna Adams Northshore Schools Foundation, Vice President.

The Northshore Schools Foundation has been serving the Northshore community for the past 20 years.  They are best known for enriching the educational experience for students, supporting teachers and making a meaningful contribution to public education and the community. The Foundation has granted over $1 million dollars to our schools, funding programs and resources that benefit every student nearly every day during their school career.

Funds from the grant will be directed towards Foundation initiatives of Literacy & Arts; Science Technology Engineering & Math, Career and College Readiness, Teacher Excellence, Health & Enrichment and  Advanced & Struggling Learners.   Some of the specific programs funded include National Board Teacher Certification Scholarships, Classroom Libraries for New Teachers, Hour of Code, Math Olympiad and specialty programs such as the Music Program at the Secondary Academy of Success and Youth Court at Bothell High School.

“Teachers continue to face a myriad of needs within classrooms. Their challenge is to find resources for increasingly complex and varied levels of ability and experience. When these practitioners receive support from our local community through funding for grants, a vital message is received. It says to them that their work is respected and valued by the people who live and work in Northshore!” said Foundation Board member and retired NSD teacher Susan Jackson.

Funds were raised during the fall through numerous programs presented by the Foundation, including the annual All in for Kids Campaign, The Taste of the Holiday Wine Walk, Molbaks’ Northshore Holiday Showcase, Lombardi’s Beer vs Wine and workplace charitable giving campaigns.  Local businesses also provide much needed support through event and annual sponsorships.   Annual Sponsors include Cornerstone General Contractors, Microsoft and McKinstry.
