Odor complaint response extended in the city of Kenmore

The city of Kenmore has extended the cooperative odor complaint agreement with Puget Sound Clean Air Agency (PSCAA) until July 2016.

The city of Kenmore has extended the cooperative odor complaint agreement with Puget Sound Clean Air Agency (PSCAA) until July 2016. This means that the city of Kenmore will be responding to odor complaints on behalf of PSCAA during this period. Please note that the city will only be responding to and reporting odor complaints to PSCAA, not taking enforcement actions; PSCAA will receive the odor complaint reports from the city and provide the appropriate enforcement actions.

How to call in an odor complaint:

Call Kenmore City Hall during business hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday) at 425-398-8900 and file an odor complaint with the receptionist. The receptionist will contact the appropriate city staff person to respond to the odor complaint.

During non-business hours log onto Puget Sound Clean Air Agency’s website at www.pscleanair.org, and click on “file a complaint.” Also during this cooperative agreement period, Puget Sound Clean Air Agency may still respond to and investigate air quality complaints within Kenmore.

Odor complains will only be responded to at residences and places of business. As the city inspector arrives at your residence or place of business, please have the following prepared to complete a statement:

• Be ready to complete a non-anonymous statement.

• The statement will need to contain what is witnessed, location, and most importantly how the odor has unreasonably interfered with the enjoyment of life and property.

• Upon completion of the statement and observation, the source of the odor will be further investigated by the city inspector to identify the source.

As the city inspector completes the investigation, the documentation is submitted to the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency. Puget Sound Clean Air Agency then determines whether or not to initiate any enforcement action. The responsibility and cost of any enforcement action taken as a result of the investigation shall be borne exclusively by the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency.

For more information call the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency at 206-689-4025 and ask for Tom Hudson or call the city’s front desk at 425-398-8900 and you will be directed to the appropriate city staff person.
