Personal fireworks prohibited in Kenmore

In anticipation of the Fourth of July holiday, City of Kenmore officials are reminding residents that fireworks of any kind are prohibited in Kenmore.

In 2004, Kenmore City Council adopted Ordinance No. 04-0204 prohibiting the sale, discharge or possession of any fireworks including those considered safe and sane fireworks (KMC 8.10.020). The ordinance became effective June 18, 2005.

The risks associated with private fireworks displays must be minimized for the sake of public safety. To help ensure all have a safe and considerate Fourth of July, the city has a zero-tolerance policy and will increase police enforcement the last week of June through the Fourth of July weekend and beyond if necessary.

Anyone possessing or discharging fireworks will be arrested and the fireworks confiscated. Fireworks offenses are misdemeanors with a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.

The City of Kenmore’s professional fireworks display starts at 10 p.m. July 4 from the Log Boom Park pier (17415 61st Ave. N.E.).
