An Edmonds man who was allegedly suicidal was injured after an officer opened fired at his pickup truck in Bothell on Friday afternoon.

He was treated at the scene near the Bothell/Kenmore border for unspecified injuries and transported to Harborview Medical Center.

The shooting occurred after the man’s wife called police around 1:30 p.m. on Friday to report that her husband was suicidal, said Mount Lake Terrace police Cmdr. Don Duncan. She said her husband left their Edmond’s home in his pickup truck.

Police located the truck near SR 104 and I-5 and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. A low-speed chase ensued when the driver would not stop, said Duncan. After approximately half a mile down SR 522, police deployed spike strips that took out two of the vehicle’s tires.

Police opened fired at the driver in front of Wayne Public Golf Course, in the 16700 block of 96th Ave. N.E. in Bothell, just off the Burke-Gilman Trail.

It is unclear how many officers were involved or why the man was shot, said Duncan. There appeared to be several bullet holes in the vehicle’s windshield.

The Bothell, Edmonds and Mount Lake Terrace police departments were all on scene following the incident. The Snohomish Multi Agency Response Team out of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation.
