Kenmore city officials estimated 400 people turned out for “Remembering History: Sammamish Slough Boat Races (1933-1976)” on April 7 at Kenmore City Hall. The event played host to legendary Hydroplane drivers, race organizers, officials and boats from the Hydroplane and Race Boat Museum, among many others.
Recreational Boating Association of Washington President Steve Greaves was the keynote speaker.
The city of Kenmore, artist Amberly “Gaul” Culley, along with King County’s 4Culture’s Historic Sites program, organized and presented the event. Historical societies from Kenmore, Bothell, Woodinville and Redmond, also took part in the event.
It also featured a Classic Boat Show with the Unlimited Hydroplane MISS WAHOO and a “build your very own origami boat workshop.”
Here are some photos from the event:

Classic Hydroplanes were on display across the street from Kenmore City Hall during the event.

This boat raced on the Sammamish River Slough.

Speakers for the event ranged from race officials, to race-boat drivers, to the president of the Recreational Boating Association of Washington.

Kenmore City Hall’s lobby was used to display many exhibits for the event.

Some of the items on display were the actual trophies from the Sammamish River Slough races.
