On top of the listerosis outbreak with candied caramel apples, the Washington State Department of Agriculture has also found the bacteria listeria monocytogenes at the Snoqualmie Ice Cream facility.

During a routine inspection, the Washington State Department of Agriculture found the bacteria within the facility.

The bacteria was found in a room, not on any product, however Snoqualmie Ice Cream has voluntarily recalled all their 2014 products. The products recalled include ice cream, gelato, custard and sorbet of all flavors and container sizes.

While there have been no illnesses reported from eating Snoqualmie products, listeria monocytogenes can cause serious, and rarely fatal, infections in young children, elderly people, or those with weakened immune systems.

listerosis symptoms can include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Rarely, the infection can cause miscarriages or stillbirth in pregnant women.

Other businesses impacted by the listerosis finding includes Seattle’s Molly Moon ice cream shop.

Citizens who purchased one of the affected Snoqualmie Ice Cream products should either dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.

Snoqualmie Gourmet Ice Cream, Inc. is working closely with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) along with the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) in investigating the cause of the contamination.

In a release on Wednesday, Dec. 24th, Washington State Department of Health (DOH) reported that investigators had linked hospitalizations of two elderly men in their 50s to the Snoqualmie Ice Cream listerosis contaminated ice cream. Both King County men are now recovering.

Other possibly contaminated products include Molly Moon Ice Cream, Emerald & Spruce Ice Cream, and Top Pot Hand Forged Ice Cream. All products will have a code that end in ‘4’ or are listed by production dayes between Jan. 1st, 2014 through Dec. 15th, 2014.
