State Transportation Commission repeals I-405 tolls nights, weekends, holidays

Toll lanes on Interstate 405 will only collect tolls weekdays from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. after a vote by the Washington State Transportation Commission earlier today.

Toll lanes on Interstate 405 will only collect tolls weekdays from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. after a vote by the Washington State Transportation Commission earlier today.

The state Department of Transportation said in a press release tolls would not be collected nights, weekends or on six major holidays.

The toll lanes have been unpopular since they were implemented in late September. Todays decision marks a victory for citizen action groups and legislators opposed to the tolls.

Toll signs will read “open to all” during off-hours, meaning any driver, including those without Good to Go passes or carpool can use the lanes.

State Route 167 HOT lanes, State Route 520 bridge tolls and the Tacoma Narrows bridge will not be affected.
