Traffic flowed well through Kenmore over the weekend

Despite some added weekend lane closures, Heidi Sowell, a spokesperson for the State Route 522 improvement project, said traffic flowed well through the Kenmore construction zone with drivers experiencing what were described as only short delays.

Officials went on to say contractors and WSDOT reopened all lanes of traffic through Kenmore ahead of schedule about 10:30 p.m. Feb. 22.

Workers successfully repaved large portions of SR 522’s westbound lanes between 73rd Avenue Northeast and 83rd Place Northeast.

In addition to the repaved lanes, drivers should notice the left turn/U-turn lane at 83rd Place was reinstated and the work zone on the north side of SR 522 was eliminated. A 40-foot work zone now separates the eastbound and westbound lanes on SR 522 in anticipation of building concrete medians.

What happens next may depend largely on the local weather forecast. Lack of rain permitting, crews once again will reduce SR 522 traffic to one lane in each direction between 68th Avenue Northeast and 83rd Place, the idea being this time to attack the eastbound lanes of the roadway. If the work moves forward, the extra lane closures will occur between 3 a.m. Feb. 28 to 5 a.m. March 2. If the weather proves uncooperative, the work will be rescheduled.
