The following is a release from the King County United Way:

United Way of King County is offering free tax preparation at 24 locations throughout King County through April 21 with expanded hours on April 18, the filing deadline for this tax season. The program is designed to help low and middle-income families increase their financial security and keep more of what they earn.

Locations can be found throughout the county with daytime, evening and weekend hours available. No appointments are needed and services are provided in multiple languages by IRS certified volunteers. In addition to filing tax returns clients can access healthcare enrollment and other public benefits.

In Shoreline, there are two United Way Free Tax Sites. The Free Tax Site at Hopelink Shoreline, 15809 Westminster Way N., Shoreline WA, 98133, is open 5-9 p.m. on Mondays, 1-9 p.m. on Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

The Free Tax Site at Shoreline Goodwill, 14500 15th Ave NE, Shoreline WA, 98155, is open 5-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays.

In Lake City, the United Way Free Tax Site is located at the Lake City Neighborhood Service Center at 12525 28th Ave. NE, Seattle WA, 98125, and is open 5-9 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturdays.

At the sites, United Way will prepare income tax returns with an eye to take full advantage of all the possible credits available, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) that reduces the amount of income tax owed by low to moderate income workers. It is considered the largest anti-poverty tool in the US.

Taxpayers must bring photo identification and Social Security Cards (or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers) for themselves, spouses and dependents. They should also bring wage and earnings statements (Forms W-2), interest and dividend information concerning their income and expenses for the year of 2015.
