University of Washington, Bothell gardener Richard Klein watches as senior and Associated Student Body President Xheni Diko plants the first purple petunia today at the school’s Earth Day Celebration, “Digging with the Dawgs,” on the campus W.

Seniors also made wishes and noted their favorite UW-B memories while planting. Diko’s wish: “I’d like to see the growing (of UW-B) and collaboration with the community come alive.” Fellow senior Kathryn Jansen added: “(I’m planting) in the spirit of graduating. It’s been a wonderful experience here.”

According to gardener Tim Maurer, 600 total petunias and marigolds were set to be planted.
