UW Bothell aligns with UW Seattle in minimum wage increase

The University of Washington Bothell officials released a statement late Monday stating that they would be following in the main Seattle campus’ lead and raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

“We are committed to our employees making a living wage,” says Chancellor Wolf Yeigh, “and we appreciate everyone’s hard work in making UW Bothell the exceptional institution that it is today.”

Many units on the Bothell campus have been paying $13 an hour for quite some time. Although the Bothell campus is not subject to Seattle’s new law, UW Bothell made the decision to budget for this change and follow UW Seattle’s increase schedule.

Subject to UW Seattle’s successful conclusion of ongoing negotiations with the unions, the increase will take effect in two stages: On January 1, 2016, the minimum wage for all workers, including student workers, will move to $13 an hour, and to $15 an hour on January 1, 2017.
