Recently, University of Washington, Bothell hosted the 2012 Beta Alpha Psi Regional Conference, which joined together 200 accounting students representing 16 prominent universities from around the northwest to compete in three categories of best accounting practices.

Of those three competitions, UW-Bothell won the competition “Dealing with Change,” and came in second in the competition “Thinking Outside of the Box.”

The winning team will move on to the national Beta Alpha Psi competition in Baltimore, Md., in August. Its members are: JC Hauchecorne, Chris Harbert, James Forinash, Caroline Boktour and Gennell Scribner. Students on the second-place team were Chris Steele and Mariah Wine.

Beta Alpha Psi is an honorary organization for Financial Information students and professionals founded in 1919. Beta Alpha Psi encourages and recognizes scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field.

Participants spent one day of the conference enjoying special tours of Amazon, Starbucks, Alaska Airlines, the Gates Foundation and Digi-Pen Institute of Technology.

Ron Tilden, faculty adviser, coordinated the event and says the tours were very popular.

“It was an honor hosting this event, and having the opportunity to show there members what the Pacific Northwest has to offer,” Tilden says.

Beta Alpha Psi’s work includes promoting the study and practice of accounting, finance and information systems; providing opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals and encouraging a sense of ethical, social and public responsibility.
