UW Bothell students receive grant from Microsoft

Two teams of students from the University of Washington Bothell have been awarded grants totaling $25,000 from Microsoft to develop applications.

Two teams of students from the University of Washington Bothell have been awarded grants totaling $25,000 from Microsoft to develop applications.

Campus Innovators, a team comprised of Laura Valiente, Kyle Burney, Frank Kidd and Armin Haghi, are working on a project to help students find parking in crowded campus lots using sensors to alert students to open spots.

Smart Grid, comprised of Kiran Gurajala, Molly Herbert, Alex Lee and Justin Diekhans, are developing a way to reduce the impact of rolling blackouts in developing nations by rationing electricity.

The Internet of Things refers to the network created when sensors, devices, buildings and vehicles that are connected exchange data and take adaptive actions based on intelligent logic, a press release from the university said.
