Drivers using State Route 522 in Kenmore should be ready for some delays as workers get ready for weekend construction work that will reduce the street to one lane in each direction.

According to information provided by the SR 522 Improvement Project, construction crews are preparing for significant pavement removal and replacement work between 68th Avenue Northeast and 83rd Place Northeast.

The work is expected to be spread over at least two weekends, with the first weekend work slated for Feb. 21-22.

According to project management, those living near or driving on SR 522 should expect the following:

• 24-hour construction, including night work

• Additional equipment and noise

• Traffic shifts and detours

• Additional flaggers and police officers in the construction zone

• Entrances to all businesses and residences will be maintained.

While the first weekend work already is scheduled, at least one more weekend of construction will be needed. Officials said the scheduling is weather dependent.

The first weekend-long closures will shift traffic to the two southernmost lanes to allow for pavement removal and repaving of westbound lanes and the intersection of 80th Avenue Northeast and 83rd Place.

During the second weekend of work, traffic will be moved to the northernmost lanes, allowing for pavement removal and the installation of bus pads.
