The following is a release from the Washington State Department of Transportation:

The Washington State Department of Transportation will shut down all westbound lanes of State Route 520 across Lake Washington between 92nd Avenue Northeast and Montlake Boulevard beginning at 11 p.m. on March 13 . A single westbound lane of SR 520 will also be closed at times between Montlake Boulevard and Interstate 5. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. on March 16.

The closure could mean increased traffic on SR 522 through Bothell and Kenmore.

Contractor crews working on the West Approach Bridge North Project will use the weekend closure to remove barrier along the highway and realign lanes on the westbound off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard in preparation for building a new off-ramp.

The SR 520 West Approach Bridge North Project brings highway improvements and a new westbound connection from SR 520 to Montlake. This includes a 6,100-foot-long approach structure that will carry westbound traffic from the new floating bridge to the Montlake area. The three-lane approach bridge, which includes an HOV lane and a path for bicyclists and pedestrians, will open in 2017.
