Crews working on State Route 520’s West Approach Bridge North Project will close the highway’s westbound lanes and ramps at 11 tonight, June 25, between 92nd Avenue Northeast and Montlake Boulevard. The westbound lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Friday, June 26.
Closures of 520 can impact traffic volumes on SR 522 through Bothell and Kenmore.
At 11 p.m. Friday, SR 520 will close in both directions (see map) for around-the-clock construction. The cross-lake highway will reopen to traffic by 5 a.m. Monday, June 29.
Details of SR 520 closures
- All westbound lanes of SR 520 will close from 11 p.m. Thursday, June 25, to 5 a.m. Friday, June 26, between 92nd Avenue Northeast and Montlake Boulevard. During the overnight closure crews will continue pouring concrete for a temporary westbound off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard.
- All lanes of SR 520 will close, in both directions, from 11 p.m. Friday, June 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, June 29:
o The eastbound ramps and lanes, including the Portage Bay Bridge, will close from Interstate 5 to 92nd Avenue Northeast.
o The westbound lanes and ramps will close from 92nd Avenue Northeast to Montlake Boulevard.
o Crews also will close a single northbound lane on Montlake Boulevard.
- During the weekend closure, crews will pour additional concrete for connecting SR 520’s westbound lanes to a temporary off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard. Crews also will install new tolling equipment along SR 520’s westbound lanes on the Eastside near 84th Avenue Northeast; make improvements to the eastbound SR 520 ramps to and from Montlake Boulevard; and install utility lines in the Montlake area.
Weekend travel advice
- Travelers should plan ahead for the weekend closure of SR 520. For travel between Seattle and the Eastside, people are encouraged to take alternative routes, such as Interstate 90, or use transit or carpools.
- The I-90 express lanes will open in the westbound direction at 7 a.m. Saturday, June 27, and remain open westbound throughout the closure of SR 520.
