William Lowell DeYoung, one of Woodinville’s most influential longtime citizens, died Feb. 3, 2009, at Evergreen Hospital. He was 88.

Born May 6, 1920, to John and Ellen DeYoung in Kent, he moved with his family to Woodinville in 1925.

DeYoung graduated from Bothell High in 1938 and married his classmate, Stella Pascoe, Nov. 26, 1942. In 1944, he opened Lowell DeYoung Company, which grew into a large animal-feed manufacturing company with retail and delivery services throughout the area. DeYoung’s Farm and Garden in Woodinville remains open today.

He served in several positions, including commissioner of the King County Fire District 42, commissioner of the Woodinville Water District and charter member of the Woodinville Chamber of Commerce. He also founded Northshore First National Bank in Bothell.

DeYoung was a supporter of several philanthropic causes, including Evergreen Hospital, Washington State University, Seattle Pacific University, Bellevue Christian School and the Union Gospel Mission.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Evergreen Hospital Foundation of the Union Gospel Mission.
