Troopers arrest 41-year-old Seattle man for throwing debris into traffic

Here is damage to the windshield of one of the vehicles struck in the Tuesday, July 20 debris-throwing incident.

Troopers responded to reports of rocks/debris being thrown at cars on WB I90 near Rainier Ave around 4 p.m. July 20. In total 7 vehicles were struck. Troopers were able to arrest a 41-year-old Seattle man whom it believes is responsible. An earlier report erroneously listed the man’s age as 31.

The prohibition on the sale and distribution of these products will take effect June 1 under a law the Legislature approved in 2021.

The number of fatal crashes in marked work zones had doubled in 2023 when compared to the previous year.
