CAROL STIPEK

Mr. Carol Stipek, 93 of Bothell, WA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at his home. He was born February 26, 1924 in Rimrock, WA, the son of the late Frank Joseph and Eleanor (Harris) Stipek and was the third of twelve children.

He grew up in Tacoma and Seattle. After graduating from Ballard High School, Carol enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served from 1943 to 1946 as a Gunnery Instructor.

Carol’s first wife Lillian Sphung, with whom he had a son David, passed away on August 26, 1950. Carol was introduced to Shirley Mae Olson by close friend, Fr. William Treacy. He married them on May 16, 1953 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Seattle. Shirley preceded him in death on January 9, 2014.

They moved to Bothell in 1956 and raised their large family on the five acre farm north of Bothell, which later became Stipek Park. Carol was a member of St. Brendan Catholic Church for over 60 years. He retired as Postmaster from the Bothell Post Office in 1980 with 34 years of service. Carol was on the Bothell Park and Recreation Board, is an Honorary Lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, was active with Rotary International, his church and the Democratic Party.

Carol and Shirley traveled extensively. He also loved to play dominoes.

He is survived by his children, David Stipek (Toy), Mike Stipek (Cheryl), Tracy Stipek (Betty), Carole Tucker, Mark Stipek (Marcia), Betsy Black (Bob) and daughter in law, Pat Stipek; 21 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and five siblings. He was preceded in death by his son Tim Stipek, great-granddaughter Emma Johnson and 6 siblings.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, August 11, 2017 at St. Brendan Catholic Church, 10100 192nd Street NE, Bothell, WA. Inurnment will follow at Holyrood Catholic Cemetery in Shoreline. Arrangements are being handled by Lifetime Celebration by Washelli, 18224 103rd Avenue NE, Bothell, WA.
