Francis Joseph Chantiny was born May 5, 1920 in Silverwood, MI, he died in Kent, WA, February 8, 2013. He grew up on a farm on Shay Lake in Michigan. He married Phyllis (Walls) Chantiny on May 13, 1944 in College Station, TX.He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1940, and was involved in naval air action aboard the USS Yorktown and the USS Hornet during WWII. He was wounded in battle and received the Purple Heart, the Air Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation.He retired from the Navy in 1960, moved to Bothell, and worked for Boeing until 1975. He lived quietly with his beloved wife on their small acreage near Canyon Park, WA. Hobbies included outdoor activities.His wife passed away March 8, 2012. Survivors include children, Andrea Hamley of Bellevue, Gene Chantiny of Kent, Paul Chantiny of North Bend, OR and Annette Armstrong of Portland, OR, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.His ashes will be interred at Mt. Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent alongside his beloved wife’s. In accordance with his wishes, no ceremony was held.
