Joan Froland Lehner | Obituary

Joan Froland Lehner, 80, of Poulsbo, WA, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2023. Born on June 23, 1942, to Carl and Marion Jean Froland.

Joan graduated from Shoreline High School in Seattle, then attended St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in Yakima, WA. While there, she met a handsome Air Force Officer on a blind date. She married Lt. William Blaine Lehner (Bill), in the summer of 1964. Bill and Joan then moved west of the Cascades and lived in Bothell for nearly 40 years.

After a career in nursing, she returned to college in the late 70s, earning a BA in Accounting and a Masters Degree in Finance.

She worked alongside her husband in their engineering firm as the CFO, riding the highs and lows of owning a business and raising a family; and was a mentor to many of the staff.

Joan was deeply connected with her brother, Charles and sister, Judy. When the three of them got together, they could talk all night…no matter how much time had passed. Their relationship was a treasure in her life. Always one for learning and self-inquiry, she was extremely honest; and could sometimes be blunt. But she was non-judgmental, a firm believer in women’s rights, and stood up for those less fortunate.

Her memory lives on in her husband of 59 years, Bill; her 3 children—Michael Lehner of Kenmore, Erin Lehner of Bremerton, and Tonya Cole of Port Townsend; her five grandchildren, Zachary, Jayden, Terron, Ana and Jack; and her two siblings, Judy Hall and Charles Froland. Joan is preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be held at The Stone Chapel Poulsbo Mortuary on Friday, July 14, at 2:00pm, and a reception will follow at the Cedar Glen Park dayroom at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Ukrainian Red Cross or feedthehungry.org. An online memorial can be seen at www.poulsbomortuary.com
