One of the best kept secrets in Bothell is an established trail system within a forested canopy of about 75 acres, situated on the west side of the City and on the south edge of Snohomish County. It’s mostly west and north of Shelton View Elementary School.
Go one west of the Bothell-Everett Highway 527 via 240th Street and the newer Safeway complex, to 7th Avenue West. Turn right and go four blocks north to the Department of Natural Resources trailhead sign. Take a photo of the trail map for elevation contours and map details. Bike trails not yet included on this map.
There are more than four miles of established trails, 600 newly planted trees, 75 acres of forest canopy, 26 species of birds documented and the most invasive species of plants removed.
Earth Day project volunteers, 35-45 of them, removed two truckloads of garbage, one truckload of recyclable metal, one truckload of concrete debris and began spreading chips where blackberries have been rooted out.
Help is wanted on Saturday, May 14, from 9 a.m. to noon at 234th Place Southwest. Come to the east entrance of Shelton View Elementary school. Bring gloves and a shovel. More details and two-hour stints for evening work to be announced or posted on the following sites:
