Bothell High (7-3) looked as sharp as ever during a 41-7 first-round playoff victory over Bethel High last Friday at Pop Keeney Field.
After nearly beating top-ranked Skyline last week on national television, the Cougars put on an admirable encore performance led by senior running back Patrick Ottorbech, who ran for 142 yards on 11 carries, including a 57-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter.
Starting quarterback Mitchell Muller had a fine night, going 9-for-15 for 146 yards and three scores, highlighted by a 72-yard bomb to team co-captain Kurt Stottlemyer.
The Cougars’ three losses this season have come against a trio of teams, Bellevue, Issaquah and Skyline, that are a combined 25-2 overall.
Up next for Bothell will be an away game against Curtis (9-1) this Friday in the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs.
• Inglemoor was sent packing last Friday at Auburn Memorial Stadium as the Viks fell to the Trojans, 35-14.
The Trojans led, 28-0, at halftime, limiting the Vikings to only 147 total yards of offense the entire game, including minus-7 yards rushing in the first half.
Inglemoor got on the board by recovering a Trojan fumble at their own 6-yard line, which Zach Pattison took in for a score, and Ben Nystrom caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from junior Derek Wagner just inside the two-minute warning.
Volleyball
Bothell (13-2) tamed Roosevelt (10-7) in the second round of the 4A Kingco playoffs last Thursday, hosted by Bothell, 3-0. Game scores were 25-19, 25-20, 25-15.
Outside hitter Charnele Odingo shined with 16 kills, followed by Blythe Cannon with 11. Setter Anna Buck contributed 38 assists and 10 digs, while libero Zoe Iida added 15 digs.
Bothell’s next game in the tournament was on Tuesday against a team to be determined after the Reporter’s deadline.
• Inglemoor finished on the losing end of a tough battle against Newport that went the distance last Thursday at the 4A Kingco playoffs.
After Inglemoor took a 2-0 lead with wins of 26-24 and 25-21, Newport stormed back with decisive 25-16 and 25-18 wins to set up the fifth-game tiebreaker set, a race to 15 points.
The Vikings and Knights locked in a fierce battle, trading point for point with the score eventually tied at 15-15, until Newport won two consecutive points to put the match away.
Inglemoor junior Jasmine Roe led the offense with 13 kills and 10 digs, libero Kendra Cotton dug up 20 balls and setter Tess Parent contributed 34 assists. Karen Purkey used a great serve to ace the Knights five times in the loss.
