Kingco champion Bothell High struggled at the 4A state tournament for the second year in a row, losing both of its matches at the Toyota Center in Kennewick last Friday and Saturday.

In their first match, the Cougars fell to Olympia in four games, 25-14, 20-25, 25-14 and 25-22. Outside hitter Lisa Chulich led the offense for Olympia with 18 kills.

For Bothell, league co-MVP Charnele Odingo was a force at the net with 15 kills and four blocks.

In the consolation bracket, Bothell lost a tightly contested match against the Puyallup Vikings of the South Puget Sound League, 3-1. Game scores were 25-20, 25-19, 22-25 and 25-19.

Odingo continued her torrid offense with 18 kills, Blythe Cannon shone on both offense and defense with 12 kills and 14 digs and setter Anna Buck recorded 30 assists during the match.

Bothell finished the season with a 14-4 record.

• In 4A Kingco news, Bothell’s Marlie Davis was named coach of the year.

Along with Odingo, Bothell defensive specialist Zoe Iida was a first-team selection.

Cougars Buck and outside hitter Cannon made the second team along with Inglemoor libero Kendra Cotton.
