Bothell clinches Crest title with big win against Woodinville | Prep footall

It has been a season of highs and lows for the Bothell High School football team.

It has been a season of highs and lows for the Bothell High School football team. The Cougars began the season ranked in the top five in most polls for 4A teams in Washington State. A 0-3 start was a big blow to a prideful program.

But Bothell is beginning to prove those pollsters right. The Cougars won the Crest Division title Friday, picking up their fifth-consecutive victory by beating Woodinville 23-7 at Pop Keeney Stadium. A big part of the late-season comeback has been the legs of running back Danny Wilson, who followed up a 364-yard performance last week with a three-touchdown, 173-yard game against the Falcons.

Woodinville would not give Bothell the Crest title easily, though, scoring first on an 8-yard touchdown pass during the first quarter. The score gave the Cougars, and Wilson, even more motivation.

The running back added kick return to his long list of accomplishments this season, as he outran every player on the field for a 97-yard touchdown during the ensuing kickoff. But a failed extra-point attempt left Bothell still down, 7-6.

The Bothell defense got the ball back on a fumbled punt attempt and Wilson gave the Cougars the lead with a 23-yard touchdown run entering halftime.

Alec Yarno extended the lead with a 24-yard field goal to open the third-quarter scoring. Wilson added his third touchdown of the game towards the end of the third quarter, a 15-yard run from scrimmage, putting the game out of reach for the Falcons.

The win lifts the Cougars’ record to 4-0 in league play and 5-3 overall. Bothell will face Skyline High School at 7 p.m. Thursday at Pop Keeney Stadium in Bothell for the KingCo 4A title.
