Bothell football loses second straight to Newport | Prep Roundup

Playing at Newport Stadium last Friday night, the Cougars fell behind early and ended up falling to the Knights 28-24. Newport got off to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter on a pair of short runs in the red zone, with the Cougars responding in the second quarter on a seven-yard touchdown run by Kizhan Proctor and a 30-yard field goal off the foot of Alec Yarno.

Newport got off to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter on a pair of short runs in the red zone, with the Cougars responding in the second quarter on a seven-yard touchdown run by Kizhan Proctor and a 30-yard field goal off the foot of Alec Yarno.

Bothell led off the second half with another run in by Proctor of 13 yards to take a 17-13 lead, and junior Will McIntyre ran in a punt return 92 yards to give his team a 24-21 advantage, but Newport quarterback Isaac Dotson responded with a clutch eight-yard pass to Miles Fowler for what ended up being the game-winning touchdown.

For the game, Newport outgained Bothell on the ground 221 yards to 144, with the Cougars’ 10 penalties for 105 yards hurting their chances.

Bothell dropped to 1-2 overall and begins 4A Kingco Crown divisional play this Friday, Sept. 23, 7 p.m. at Roosevelt High School.

 

Inglemoor drops wild game to Lake Stevens

The offense was in full force last Thursday at Pop Keeney as Lake Stevens handed the Inglemoor Vikings their first loss of the season, 45-25.

With Lake Stevens scoring 28 points in the first half on four touchdowns, the hometown Vikings battled back with two scores from running back Junior Vi, a booming 38-yard field goal from Willie Augustavo and a brilliant 44-yard pass to receiver Dan Larson from quarterback Brandon Edwards to close the gap to 28-23 at halftime.

The second half was all Lake Stevens, however, as the visitors returned a pair of punts for touchdowns while Inglemoor managed just a safety in the fourth quarter.

The loss dropped Inglemoor to 2-1 overall, and they take on Ballard this Friday at Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m. in their Crest Division opener.

 

Cedar Park falls to Charles Wright

Behind a brilliant performance by Charles Wright Academy quarterback Fritz Jacobson (13-for 16, 136 yards) the Eagles were handed a 22-9 defeat on Saturday night at home, their first loss of the season, in their 1A/2B Nisqually League opener.

With the Eagles taking a 3-0 lead into halftime on Ryan Carter’s 32-yard field goal, the second half was all Charles Wright as they reached the end zone three times, including an 83-yard breakaway run by running back Colin Reynolds.

The loss dropped Cedar Park to 2-1 overall.

 

Eastside Catholic bumps Bothell

Volleyball 3A superpower Eastside Catholic swept Bothell in three games last Thursday night on the Crusaders’ home court via game scores of 25-22, 25-14 and 25-16.

For the Cougars, Piercen Lundquist led the offense with 11 kills, followed by Katie Arneson with six. Setter Allie Hadley recorded 17 assists.

The Cougars will be hosting Spirit Night at home on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against 4A state returner Newport with special prize giveaways and a fun community atmosphere.  Click here for details.

 

Cougars swim well at double-dual meet

At last Friday’s 4A Kingco double-dual swim meet against Garfield and Redmond, the Cougars performed very well, beating the Mustangs 104-78 while narrowly falling to the Bulldogs 94-91.

For the Cougars, event winners included the 200 medley relay team of Tiffany Dang, Emily Anthony, Stephanie Bultman and Mariah Williamson in 2 minutes, 2.09 seconds; Williamson taking the 200 IM in 2:20.41, Dang winning the 50 free in 26.11 and the 100 back in 1:04.84; Kayla Knight’s 100 fly win in 1:10.70; Emily Anthony winning the 100 free in 1:01.38; Williamson winning the 500 free in 5:27.45; the 200 free relay team of Bultman, Tenetta Walker, Anthony and Dang winning in 1:50.97.
