Bothell High School student earns silver medal at karate championships

Bothell High School sophomore, Christopher Penna, earned a silver medal at Pan American Karate Championships in Lima Peru on Aug. 28.

Bothell High School sophomore, Christopher Penna, earned a silver medal at Pan American Karate Championships in Lima Peru on Aug. 28.

Penna has been practicing karate for 10 years and has received 100 medals in his karate career including at local, national and international tournaments. He also participated in the World Championships in 2013 in Guadalajara Spain.

Penna is a four time US National Champion and the only 14-15 year old to win both at his age.

Penna practices karate 5-6 days a week year round for 10 years. He travels 60 miles after school four days a week to attend classes at Washington Karate Lakewood. His instructor is World Karate Federation Referee Chuck Sweigart.
