Bothell High wrestling at a glance

• COACH: Scott LaBrash

• LAST SEASON: 5-5 4A Kingco, 4th place, 7-6 overall

TOP RETURNERS (name, weight class)

• Jr. Chris Ungrecht, 103: Defending Kingco champ has sights set high after earning an alternate state spot last year. Fills a crucial weight class to avoid costly forfeits.

• Sr. Ryan Loutsis, 160: Great athlete and key player on Cougars’ football team seeks a high finish at regionals this year.

• Sr. Salvador Sahagun, 285: Team’s heavyweight was a Kingco finalist last season before falling short of state. A true 215, has had marked success against wrestlers physically larger than him.

KEY NEWCOMERS (name, weight class)

• So. Dustin Rohde, 130: Had great start to season with win at the Jackson High Scoop Invitational on Dec. 13. Will be a force in the years to come.

• So. David Schorman, 112: Key lightweight fills an important weight class. One of a big crop of sophomore wrestlers that represent the program’s future.

KEY MEET

• Jan. 13 vs. Bellevue and Woodinville at Woodinville, 6 p.m.

A tough double-dual for the Cougars as Woodinville returns an incredibly strong team, and 3A Bellevue is no pushover, either, with a coaching change two years ago that revitalized the program. Will be a test for LaBrash’s young team to see if it can hang with the league’s elite.
