Bothell soccer kicks into 4A state tourney

With a 1-0 victory over Issaquah on Friday, Bothell’s boys soccer team advanced to the 4A state tournament for the first time in about 10 years.

Bothell will take on Todd Beamer at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Federal Way Memorial Field in the opening round.

It’s been about 25 years since the Cougars last won a state match.

In the teams’ fourth meeting this year, Cole Baker scored with four minutes left in the first half off a throw in from Fletcher Hatting. Justin Grubb notched the shutout in goal.

“The entire team played excellent defense versus the high-scoring Issaquah team,” said coach Shaun Warner.

In previous games between the teams this year, Bothell won, 3-2, and Issaquah won a pair of 1-0 games.
