The Cougars’ volleyball team opened the 2012 season with a win over Edmonds-Woodway at home last night, 3-1, on game scores of 26-24, 25-20, 20-25 and 25-16.
Senior outside hitter Katie Arneson led the offense with 17 kills, followed by Emma Salud with 10 and six blocks.
Setter Molly Rigdon notched 42 assists and on defense, Theresa Laufasa led with 17 digs in the match followed by Lexie Bedelle’s 14.
In the Vikings’ season opener, the Inglemoor girls’ volleyball team dispatched Juanita in a 3-0 sweep on Wednesday night.
Bothell boys’ golf falls to Roosevelt
The Cougars had two solid performances at Jackson Golf Course Seattle yesterday afternoon, but the Roosevelt Roughriders had a few more players go low as they defeated Bothell 205-212 in a 4A Kingco matchup.
Max Tucker and Drew Mahrt led the Cougars with a 1-over 37 and 2-over 38, respectively.
Juanita edges Inglemoor in the pool
Kicking off the 2012 girls’ swim season last Thursday, the Juanita High Rebels narrowly defeated the Inglemoor Vikings 93-90.
Highlights for the Vikings included Kayla Roberson winning the 200 freestyle in 2 minutes, 3.24 seconds as well as the 100 butterfly in 1:04.48, defending state breaststroke champion Sage Speak handily winning the 200 IM in 2:20.45 and the 100 free in 56.40.
In the relays, the Viking team of Emily Chapple, Speak, Calista Skog and Kayla Roberson won the 200 medley relay by just over a second over Juanita’s team with a time of 1:57.79.

Inglemoor holds off Bothell
In an all-Northshore battle at Inglemoor High last night, the Vikings’ lone unassisted goal from Kaylee Maukstad in the 63rd minute proved to be the difference in a 1-0 shutout of the Cougars.
With the win, the Vikings improved to 2-0-0 on the season while Bothell, which beat Nathan Hale 3-0 on Tuesday, dropped to 1-1-0.
Granard’s hat trick buries Vashon Island
The Cedar Park Christian girls’ soccer team got off to a great start to their 2012 campaign with a 5-0 shutout of Vashon Island on the road Tuesday night.
Danica Granard scored three times in the rout, in the 8th, 47th and 50th minutes, with Kaitlyn Bartee adding an unassisted goal in the 37th minute and Jules Tolentino scoring in the 44th minutes off McKenzie Mills, who finished with three assists on the night.
Kristen Barclay and Ryanne Fazio combined for the shutout in goal.
