Bothell wins the hardwood war over Skyline / Prep roundup

BOYS BASKETBALL

The rivalry moved from the gridiron to the hardwood Dec. 15, and Bothell came out on top this time with a 57-54 overtime victory over Skyline.

Kyle McAllister led all scorers with 22 points.

However, playing without leading scorer and O’Dea transfer Dominic Ballard (19 points per game), the Cougars, playing at home, fell to the Lake Washington Kangaroos in a 4A Kingco matchup on Friday night, 65-59.

Ballard suffered a sprained ankle during practice on Thursday and is day-to-day.

The Kangaroos, who have no returning starters, were led by 6-foot-6 forward Ryan Guisness with a team-high 20 and 6-10 center Darien Nelson-Henry with 18.

Oliver Hurtin led Bothell with 21, while big man Michael Hartvigson almost recorded a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds.

The loss, the Cougars’ first on the season, dropped them to 3-1 in league play and 2-1 overall.

• Led by the backcourt duo of junior guard Eric Bryant and point guard Andy Nwaelele, Inglemoor had no trouble taking down Roosevelt on the road Friday night, 60-49.

Bryant shot 7-for-13 from the field for a career-high 20 points as Nwaelele added 18 on perfect 6-for-6 shooting, including a pair of 3-pointers.

The Vikings fell behind 14-11 in the second quarter and turned up the heat in the second half, never trailing again and leading by as many as 13 points.

Brady Gregor, a 6-foot-7 senior post, contributed eight points and four blocks, while center Paul Jorg added four.

Roosevelt’s Kai Hoyt led the team with 18 points, followed by Colin Noteboom with 13.

With the win, Inglemoor improved to 3-1 in 4A Kingco play and 4-1 overall.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Roosevelt handed the Inglemoor girls basketball team its first league loss, 53-46, on Friday night.

Roosevelt jumped out to a 30-18 lead at halftime and held off a late-charging Viking squad for the win.

Alexis McLeod and Taylor Peacocke led Inglemoor with 15 and 14 points, respectively, while Roosevelt’s Catherine Killian scored a game-high 17.

The Vikings are now 3-1 in 4A Kingco play and 5-2 overall.

• The Kangaroos, playing on the road against Bothell in a 4A Kingco contest last Friday, used a 25-point second quarter to build a 19-point halftime lead, 38-19, and never looked back in a 68-39 win over the struggling Cougars (0-4, 1-5).

Junior wing Kareena Dahl led Bothell with 10 points, followed by Tracy Rider with seven.

BOYS SWIMMING

Inglemoor won all 12 events in a dominating 145-41 win over Juanita at a 4A Kingco swim meet at Juanita Pool last Thursday.

The Vikings’ relay teams highlighted the meet by qualifying for state in all three team events.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Craig Olynyk, Patrick Lu, Kyle Komlodi and Carl Olsson finished in 1 minute, 44.20 seconds, the 200-yard freestyle squad of Olynyk, Michael Postetter, Olsson and Komlodi swam in 1:32.05 and the 400-yard freestyle team of Sam Billett, Postetter, Olynyk and Komlodi blistered the pool in 3:26.80.

The Vikings’ 200 free relay time is currently the third best in the state at the 4A level.
