ACADEMY OF ART UNIVERSITY SIGNS KENMORE’S SMOOT

Inglemoor High graduate Lauren Smoot has signed on to play softball next season with the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Calif. She will join the Urban Knights after completing two years at Bellevue College.

“Lauren will bring both power and speed to the team,” said coach Rachel Sherman. “She has great presence and confidence on the field.”

At Inglemoor, she was the league slugging champion as a senior with a .776 slugging percentage. Also during her senior year, Smoot drove in three game-winning runs at the state tournament where her team finished in third place, and had a perfect defensive season.

Smoot, an outfielder, was named to the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) first team as an outfielder in 2009. Her Bellevue College team finished both the 2008 and 2009 seasons as NWAACC North Division champions. Smoot led her 2009 Bellevue team in home runs with nine, triples with four, runs batted in with 40, and stolen bases. She finished the season with a .389 batting average and a .690 slugging percentage.

Smoot plans to major in photography.
