South Whidbey defeated Cedar Park Christian, 40-0, in the teams’ season-opening football game Sept. 5.

On offense, Eagle running back Jacob Simmons carried the ball 19 times for 88 yards, quarterback Justin Girgus was 5-for-9 passing for 57 yards before leaving the game with a knee injury and wide receiver Riley O’Regan had four catches for 64 yards.

Defensively, Warren Benzanson had seven tackles and safety Tiss Moldovan had six tackles and one sack.

Seattle Synchro

to hold events

Former Seattle Synchronized Swim team member Jillian Penner, who recently competed with the U.S. Olympic team in China, will attend a welcome-home and autograph-signing party from 7-8 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Carole Ann Wald Memorial pool located in St. Edward State Park, 14445 Juanita Drive N.E., Kenmore.

The team will also hold a free session from 11 a.m. to noon Sept. 20 at the pool.

Alumni volleyball match on tap

Bothell High will hold its alumni volleyball match at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 in the school gym.

It’s wrestling time on Northshore

The 25th annual Northshore Kids Wrestling program will take place from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays Oct. 8-Nov. 3 in the Inglemoor High wrestling room.

The first practice and sign up will be at 5:15 p.m. Oct. 8. The introductory program is open to children in grades 1-6. Fee is $60 per child with discounts for multiple family members; the fee can be waived for cases of financial hardship. For information, call (206) 999-5622.
