Cedar Park Christian girls soccer set for playoff action | Sports Briefs

It was a mixed bag for Cedar Park Christian girls soccer last week. The Eagles first enjoyed a 4-1 victory over Forest Ridge. Swing player and freshman Kathryn Kerr scored in the 24th minute (assist by Nicolette Clark) and 25th minute (unassisted). Sophomore Ryan Miller tallied in the 47th minute (assist from freshman Brie Boroughs). That same minute, Forest Ridge managed to score against Cedar Park. To end the game, Clark scored unassisted in the 75th minute.

Cedar Park challenged Overlake last Thursday in a strong battle, but the Eagles lost, 2-0.

A penalty kick was called against Cedar Park in the first half, which gave the first goal of the match to Overlake. They scored again in the 62nd minute.

The Eagles are now looking forward to their first playoff game on Thursday.

Boys soccer

The Eagles tied University Prep, 1-1, last week.

U-Prep scored first, winning the advantage in the first minute. Cedar Park kept strong and senior Nick Kunnanz scored in the 16th minute with an assist from Addison Parker.

Saturday’s match was hard fought, but Cedar Park was unable to pull out a win. Seattle Academy scored in the 26th minute, and Cedar Park struggled to get the ball in the net. The score ended 1-0 for Seattle Academy.

Volleyball

The Eagle gals played united against Bush last week and dominated in a 3-0 victory. Junior Candice Whipple notched eight kills and five aces. Senior Melissa Lund executed five kills while teammate and freshman Lindsay Palmer had five aces.

Cedar Park wrapped up its league season with another 3-0 victory against Bellevue Christian, 25-9, 25-9, 25-13. Senior Brittany Kragerud hit seven kills and five aces while Whipple had 14 kills and six aces. Senior Tiffany Stumpf finished her outstanding league season with a total of 386 assists.

Coach Julie Nelson says, “The girls played really well on Friday. It was a good night for them. The season’s quote would be, ‘Make it a mile,’ which means make it a learning experience.”

They finished their season 12-2 and now are getting ready for their first playoff game this Saturday.
