Cedar Park Christian-Bothell swept Lakewood 3-0 on Thursday in Eagles’ head coach Marni Drechsel’s first game coaching since suffering a cardiac arrest during a game on September 24.

Cedar Park Christian-Bothell swept Lakewood 3-0 on Thursday in Eagles’ head coach Marni Drechsel’s first game coaching since suffering a cardiac arrest during a game on September 24.

Drechsel was back on the bench to guide Cedar Park Christian, which has won two consecutive matches since suffering its first loss of the season to Archbishop Murphy on Monday. Samantha Drechsel had 16 kills and seven digs, Emily McKenzie had 27 assists and Rachel Kumai added nine digs and an assist for Cedar Park Christian (10-1 league and overall), which was happy to have its coach back.

“She felt great!” Eagles assistant coach Jemena Williams said of Drechsel in an e-mail to The Herald.

Lakewood (4-7, 4-7) was led by Sidney Goodall’s six kills, eight digs and three blocks. Morgan Shimkus had eight kills and nine digs and Mariah Jensen added 21 assists for the Cougars.
