This past weekend, the Cedar Park Christian track-and-field team loaded up the bus and headed to Cheney to participate in the state 1A championships.

In the finals, Josh Zoellick took fourth place in the 110-meter hurdles, Joel Roberts came in sixth in the shot put and Ben Fuchs took 11th in the long jump. In 4×400 relay action, the girls team took seventh place, while the boys team picked up eighth.

Designated track-and-field chaplain Josh Moore has a final note about the 2009 track team: “It was a really great year. We were able to come away with another league title for the second year in a row. The chemistry among the team was great. Before most track meets, we would have a pasta dinner at someone’s house, which really helped to unite the team as a whole.”

SOFTBALL

The Cedar Park softball gals traveled to Pasco for the 1A state tournament last weekend, but, unfortunately, squared off against Montesano and suffered an 18-0 loss in the opener.

Against Chelan, the locals lost, 8-0, to exit the tourney.

Varsity player Halie Knutson says, “Well, this year the team came together very well. There were no cliques and everyone pushed and looked out for one another. It was a young team, so that makes the future team for next year even more prepared and ready to play.”

GOLF

Grant Zapara and Jeff Doherty had the privilege of participating in the 1A boys state championship in Richland this past week.

Zapara and Doherty both shot 78s the first day, while Doherty (tied for 20th) shot a 74 and Zapara (33rd) shot an 81 on the second day.

Zapara sums up the year by saying, “We had some new guys on the team that fit well into the system. I’m looking forward to the coming seasons. I think we can grow and play as a team.” He also remembers state as, “one of the best experiences of my life.”
