Cedar Park Christian’s footballers, which hadn’t defeated Orting since 2007, snuck away with a 22-20 win last Friday night at Juanita High to hand the Cardinals their first league loss of the year.

Orting senior quarterback Evan Chandler opened up the scoring on a 38-yard run in the first quarter, but the Eagles responded with a nine-play, 71-yard drive that ended on a 16-yard pass from quarterback Justin Girgus to Jake Kragerud.

In the second half, wide receiver Riley O’Regan caught a 12-yard pass from Girgus, but Chandler again broke through and scored to make the game 16-14.

Senior running back Zach Dinsmore, who finished with 257 yards on 37 carries, ran in a 5-yarder in the fourth quarter to extend the Eagles’ lead to eight, and the Eagles blocked a game-tying two-point conversion and then recovered an Orting fumble to seal the win.

With the victory, Cedar Park improved to 1-1 in league play and 6-2 overall.
