The Inglemoor High School girls swim team lost to Newport during the 4A KingCo dual-meet championship 130-55 Tuesday at Mary Wayte Pool on Mercer Island. But head coach Perry Dolan knew going into the meet it would be a tall order to beat the Knights’ depth.

“I couldn’t be happier that our girls did there very best and showed true sportsmanship in the meet regardless of the outcome,” said Dolan. “Newport also showed the same. Regardless of this outcome, we will still compete again at KingCo championships this Friday and Saturday.”

Despite the final score the Vikings swam well individually and posted good times in key races.

Kayla Roberson earned Inglemoor’s first individual-race victory of the night, winning the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.95. The time was more than seven seconds better than second place.

Inglemoor’s Sage Speak took first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:15.61.

Viking Chloe Carr placed second during the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.87).

In diving, Jackie Tabone scored 159.85 to finish second, while teammate Calista Skog finished third overall in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.06) for Inglemoor.

Skog, Speak, Roberson and Carr teamed to take second during the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:44.62), while the team of Emily Chapple, Kristin Lie, Natalie Hoffman and Kristy Chiang took third (1:53.40).

Dolan said that he was proud of the togetherness that his team showed during the meet.

“I can’t single out one girl because for Inglemoor it takes a team and our girls are a true band of sisters, working together to make the team work,” said Dolan.

Roberson, Skog, Carr and Speak also finished second during the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:49.76).
