The Bothell High baseball team advanced to the end of the consolation bracket of the 4A Kingco Tournament, but lost, 7-1, to Kelso High, the Greater St. Helens League champion, in a winner-to-state, loser-out game last Saturday in Vancouver.

The Cougars struck first with a run in the opening frame, but were single-handedly overwhelmed by senior Brandon Middleton, who hit a pair of home runs and finished with four RBIs.

Middleton also dominated on the mound, pitching a complete-game four-hitter in which he retired the final 14 batters he faced, striking out six and walking just one.

For Bothell, Kevin Knapp hit a double and Ryan Morgan drove him in with an RBI single for the Cougars’ only run, while Kelso took advantage of Bothell’s three fielding errors.

Bothell ended its season with a 17-8 record.
