Inglemoor’s Cooper Laird and Cedar Park Christian’s Johny Petrus earned WIAA/Wendy’s athlete-of-the-week honors for their performances in cross country and football, respectively.

They are two of 12 honorees throughout all six classifications during week five of the prep season. Laird is the 4A boys recipient and Petrus is the 1A boys winner.

Laird notched the fastest 5K time of the day at the 78-team Nike Twilight Invitational in Marysville, winning the 3A/4A varsity division with a personal record of 15:30.8. This victory followed his win (16:33.1) three days earlier in a league meet versus Skyline and North Creek, with the closest competitor 1:15 behind. Laird is currently tops in KingCo.

Petrus ripped off 275 yards rushing on 10 carries and scored seven touchdowns in a 55-29 victory over Granite Falls. He also added an interception on defense.
