Both the Bothell High sprinters and Inglemoor High distance runners had a field day at the annual Northshore District Meet at Inglemoor High on Thursday, which pitted the Cougars, Vikings and Woodinville Falcons against each other.
On the boys’ side, Bothell’s Dylan Langston and Trent Sewell finished 1-2 in the 100 meters with times of 11.12 seconds and 11.44, in the 200 Langston (22.56) edged out teammate Luke Proulx (23.00), in the 400 senior Chayce Sather ran a season-best 50.76 to win over teammate Nick Anthony, and in the 800 Bothell’s Chris Arneson broke two minutes to win in 1:59.40.
The Vikings dominated the distance events, with Michael Mendenhall winning the 1600 in 4:32.08 over Bothell’s Nathan Conrad, and Vikings Chris Wilson (10:22.68) and Ryan Rinaldi (10:31.31) finished 1-2 in the grueling 3200 meters.
Bothell’s Camden McKone ran a season-best 42.94 in the 300 meter hurdles to win.
In the field, Bothell’s Brendan Peterson took the shot put with a toss of 47 feet, 11.5 inches, Sean Mukai tied with Woodinville’s Jeff Willie for the high jump at 5-10, and Bothell won both the long jump (Danny Wilson, 19-11.5) and triple jump (Jordan Claudon, 39-4.25).
On the girls’ side, the Vikings dominated the field events, winning five of seven events.
Hannah Stevenson was victorious in both the long jump (16 feet) and triple jump (33-0.75), Isabella Torgerson vaulted nine feet, and Emily Anderson’s discus toss of 82 feet just edged out temmate Ashley Allemeier (81-8).
Bothell’s lone win in the field was Evana Enabulele in the shot with a winning heave of 31-9.
On the track, Erin Allen lit up the hurdles, winning the 100 in 15.29 and notching a new personal best in the 300 in a lightning-fast 43.95, with teammate Becca Berge placing second both times.
Inglemoor’s Brooke Monson won the 200 meters in 26.65, Viking junior Anne Seckinger won the 400 in 1:02.49 and Kyra Burke took the 3200 in 11:42.24.
The Cougars and Vikings will be headed next to the 4A Kingco League Meet at Juanita High School on Wednesday, May 11 and Friday, May 13.
Vikings strike late, rout Bulldogs
Playing in a 4A Kingco Crown Division game on Wednesday night at Garfield High, it took some time for the Vikings to get to starter Marah Williams, but they did so late in an 11-1 rout that ended by the mercy rule after six innings.
The Bulldogs took the lead early as starter Hayley Lowe gave up an RBI base hit in the first inning, but that is all Garfield would get.
The Vikings took the lead for good in the fifth inning and struck for a seven-spot in the sixth to end the game.
Highlighting the offense was junior Taylor Peacocke, going 3-for-4 with a home run and a double, followed by Holly Sandborg at 2-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in.
With the win, the Vikings broke out of a three-way tie into sole possession of second place at 6-5 in league play, with Ballard and Bothell sitting at .500 (5-5).
Bothell fastpitch jumps on Roosevelt
The Cougars scored early and often in an 11-1 victory over the Roughriders on Wednesday afternoon at home, plating three runs in the first, third and fourth innings.
Leading Bothell’s 12-hit attack was sophomore Arista Honey, who slammed a home run and a double, with Sammy Morris going 3-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored.
Starting pitcher Julia Warner held the Roughriders ini check, allowing just one run on two hits.
Bothell improved to .500 at 5-5 in league play and 8-8 overall with the win.
